The America’s Cup win in Bermuda this morning by Emirates Team New Zealand will undoubtedly have huge spin offs back home in New Zealand says Oceania Interiors Operations Manager, Gordon French:
“Congratulations ETNZ, the epitome of the kiwi spirit of knocking off the giants of world sports.
This win has the potential to completely revitalise the marine industry in NZ. The focus of the world sailing community and the HNWI that support it, will be firmly on New Zealand. You can be sure there will be Superyacht skippers and managers already being given directions to make sure they have a berth sorted for Auckland 2021, 36th Americas Cup.
Those vessels will generally stay for an extended period, both before and after the Cup, bringing the attendant benefits of tourism, provisioning and maintenance requirements. Owners will be tempted to invest in some kiwi boat building technology and skills so they can have a piece of the action onboard their boats. Be it tenders, sailing dinghies, paddle boards, or any other of the many variety of watercraft we do so well.
Whangarei is well placed to recieve visiting yachts and their crews for any maintenance requirements. Oceania with their new 560t travel lift and generous yard space will be the number one destination for any visiting large yachts.
See you all in Auckland for the welcome parade next Thursday”
